Jarkovac

The project is financed by the Austrian agency for development (ADA) and ADRA
Austria. The project is imagined as a pilot project in which the benefits should not
be only for the users, but also it should assure the long term positive effects for the
users families and entire local community. In this project 10 most vulnerable
families in the village Jarkovac in the municipality Secanj, whose houses are below
every living conditions, and the owners aren’t able to repare them, will get houses
with garden plots for usage. The conditions for the long term house usage will be
the family readiness to be involved in activities for economic strengthen and
development, for which the families will be assisted and educated.

The users relationship toward the house and its garden as opportunity for economic
development, education, living standards promotion and children health strengthen
will be the main factor for the family to staying in the houses and for the further
eventual assistance. The children of the users that weren’t so far in the school will
be involved in the primary school program. The parents will be motivated,
educated and assisted with goal of economic family sustainability for better quality
of life. Concerning the present tendency in the municipality of Secanj where in the
last 20 years a significant number of families have left the area and tried to find
their economic existence in the cities or abroad, several villages are almost empty.

The remaining families in Jarkovac are mostly poor or depending on social
assistance. Unemployment, significant number of uneducated people with lot of
children that aren’t even in the primary school program, damaged moisten houses,
agriculture almost stopped – are only some of the factors that are resulting in the
families migration to cities where are much better living conditions.
